Is 4 yoe too early for a career break?

I’m just so tired, all the time. Need a break from sitting in an office 5 days a week. Need a few months off to reset and restore some mental + physical health. Will this have a large impact on my hireability? Resume Bachelors degree 1.5 years Intuit 1 year Amazon 1.5 years Google, current $270k

To the 50yo guy who was curious earlier if he’d be hired. This post is your golden sign buddy.

Can you just take time off and return to Google? Would your manager be understanding? If so, definitely do it. Literally no one will ever know or care you took a few months off.

I brought it up in 1:1 with manager and got the standard “you can apply but it’s highly unlikely” no-but-not-a-no answer.

What OP wants is a sabbatical, which is usually only offered once you reach 5 yr tenure at a given company. Job hopping of course resets your tenure

Do you need to be in office 5 days a week at Google now?

Google DisStress OP Sep 19, 2023

In my office at home 2 days a week, in Google office 3 days

Why can’t you take FMLA / mental health leave? Are you US based?

I would say a break to do nothing is bad. But if you do something "useful" is a huge plus. I graduated as an engineer in Brazil and after 2 years wanted a break as well. Was about 26. I found a 1 year full time diploma program in the US in bus adm and project management. Best decision of my life. The program was pretty chill and made lots of friends. If you are already in the US, look for somethingin europe and if you can afford go for it.

Always trust your own judgment. Nobody else knows what you actually go through in life. Hope you feel better.

Can’t you do a leave or go to a psychologist and get some time off?

Why don't you just work much less? Chill and recharge while keeping the job. No need to quit
