Saw this on LinkedIn. Is this really happening? I can’t believe how low the bar keeps moving.
It's pretty common. My last layoff was a locked machine and a calendar invite to my personal email. When I saw attention required for both Slack and Google Mail, then a reminder invite it was pretty clear haha The actual meeting was 10 mins long, but at least I got a meeting.
My last layoff was a 15 min calendar invite. I had received a frantic call from two coworkers two hours earlier though, so I knew it was coming. They didn’t lock us out though, they kept us on for 60 days of pay during the WARN period, during which I stopped working and started looking for a job. After that we still got 6 weeks of severance and our bonus. I managed to find a job in time to collect the severance and sign on bonus for my new job in the same week. I was thrilled.
My last layoff was the best day of the year. I was planning to quit if I couldn't get a voluntary severance or PIP exit package. I didn't have to suggest either, it was amazing.

Yep! 7.5 years woke up to an email!
Wow amazon literally shoves 🍌 up their employees. Sad bro but you’ll bounce back
Yes. You are immediately locked out of your shit.
Shitty but there are disgruntled employees who might try to cause damage or steal documents. Best thing to do is immediately cut access. And if you cut access how else can you notify people?
You sound confused. Usually you meet face to face with the person to give them the news and allow them to ask questions. Not just send them an email. That’s how you “notify” people.
@Samsara I’m sorry man, but that sounds way more brutal than a clean cut. If you’re gonna fire me, just let me go so I’ll never have to see your face again.
Which org. Name and Shame.
A terrible company does terrible things. Better.com was supposed to be an anomaly, but terrible companies like Amazon have made it the standard. It’s a shame, but until regulations are enacted to protect workers against this type of nonsense, they’ll get away with doing it.
Is this new round? Or the ones from Feb?
Alt take from someone suffering through the opposite at Nike. I’d rather the efficient ruthlessness of tech than the virtue signally torture that is a Nike lay off. It’s been 5 months of everyone wondering if and when they will be laid off which means 5 months of no work
didnt google and meta do this as well?
