Before pandemic I feel Airbnb is such dream company, one tier above Google. So how about now? Culture, TC, hiring bar? The blind score is only 3.6, is the score reliable?
As long as their stock goes up, its all good
It’s hard to scale their business model because of COVID.
Airbnb is here to stay. Stock is overpriced
Adobe stock is not overpriced?
Depends on what you’re looking for. Pros: - reasonably goos culture - hard to get fired - you’ll find yourself at home if you’re an MBA Pm who thinks you’re ceo of a product and can b*tch engineers around - top tier comp - high stock prices Cons: - no interesting tech challenges - eng and DS are bottom of the totem pole - extremely top down and micro management from ceo - anti data / facts
Fwiw the “cons” here don’t reflect my experience whatsoever, but it probably varies across the company.
If you're part of a platform team, these cons are less likely to apply. The DS on my team pretty much drives the road map.
The pandemic proved people really didn't need luxury services like Uber/Lyft/Airbnb.
Do you read earnings report
What does that have to do with Airbnb laying off 25% of its staff at the start of the pandemic?
Lots of 1M TC due to the crazy stock appreciation, but for those who only joined ABNB as pre-ipo lol
Yeah it will only 3-4x now max in next couple of years
If it still goes even 2x from here in the next couple of years, I will gladly take it😀
Airbnb might go the Peloton way. Past performance of stock is not a future indicator, unless the insurance biz takes off
No. Culture died in 2015 and company is kinda meh outside of culture.
Culture died in 2015?
As an engineer I really like it here and I'm on a product team. It can definitely be pretty top down at times. But I get to work on lots of really impactful stuff and my team/manager are super high caliber. All companies have politics, google/fb/amazon/nflx etc, you name it. Politics are part of the game, you can't escape it. The dev tools / frameworks have been improving considerably over the years as well. I think the culture is still good, though it has been eroded a bit since going remote. TC is high b/c of pre ipo which helps. Definitely can be tough to hit L6 from L5, but getting up to L5 isn't too hard. And I've seen people get L6 promo, it's just not super common. Everyone here is super nice and helpful, at least the engineers are. Everyone tries to be accommodating. I'm not leaving until at least my 4 yr grant is vested
Lol you sound like you’re not on a product team No self respecting product engineer @ Airbnb enjoys being a b*tch
Just because you're salty and jaded doesn't mean everyone has to be

Modi is a legend, will be remembered for centuries to come
They've never been tier 0. They never made a billion dollar in annual profit, no confortable profit margin, a good but not great talent base. Also, they fired close to 2000 staff last year because their business isn't sustainable in times of crisis.
Yes I agree. But that’s due to pandemic. I remember the culture, TC and hiring bar is definitely higher than Google before pandemic. But I don’t know how’s it now
By this definition Amazon would be tier 0
