Why am I seeing so many negative posts about Amazon? I am new to blind and never worked in Amazon. But I got a job in Amazon recently. Are there any real advantages working for Amazon? Are we seeing many negative threads about Amazon just because there are many employees working for Amazon? Please share your experiences working in Amazon. If possible please share one advantage and one disadvantage working for Amazon. TC: 122K
Amazon is huge as an organization and it is natural for bad experiences to surpass bad experiences at other firms
TC generally lower than other FANGs but definitely has its own strengths
Donβt let the poll discourage you. Amazon is a great place to gain experience quickly. Iβve been here for 3 years and donβt think I would get the same kind of experience anywhere else. There are of course good and bad parts like any other places. But what it was able to get out of it, itβs totally worth it. Donβt listen to other peopleβs negative anecdotes and end up wasting a good opportunity.
Yeah I'd agree with this (been here about the same amount of time). You can grow really quickly as an engineer if you stick around because it's rare for good engineers to stick around.

What does banana mean?
Bananas are free.
Good: 1. Easy team changes 2. Pretty much works in all possible domains and businesses 3. AWS experience is generally regarded better than GCP or Azure experience. 4. Strong Java shop, a language pretty much used everywhere. (Unlike C# or PHP) Bad: 1. No respect for existing employees, new employees are sometimes paid more than existing 2. Manager owns your career 3. Hard to get anything done when it involves multiple teams. 4. Actually spends a lot of money at being frugal 5. CEO known for being evil 6. Is a "Day 2" company at this point but unwilling to accept it because CEO says "It's always Day 1". Guys, there is Day 3 which is brighter and better.
No kidding. Amazon really needs to jump the shark at this point.
very well summarized.
My experience is outside of engineering but there is almost no other org in the world Iβd rather be at than AWS. GCP might have some interesting AI/ML stuff in 2-3 years but right now AWS is so unbelievably dominant from a business sense its not even funny. I would not want to be on the .com side, only AWS
Just look at the themes in Check out this post! "Your experience working in Amazon in 4 words (Amazon)" https://us.teamblind.com/s/zRUXi8m5
What are the top themes ? For those who cannot access the content
I would rank AWS clearly with Facebook, google and Netflix as far as engineering talent goes, and even some of the perks (many teams get catered meals, etc). The rest of amazon, not really.
Care to elaborate why you think so?
Which teams get catered meals? :p
It is is turning into what MSFT was in Ballmer days. Favoritisms, low barred product and tech and complete lack of urgency to beat competitors like Walmart. Atleast speaking for DCs org. People who didnt like it left. People who really dont want to make a difference are warming the chairs up above with fake reviews and blind eye to media escalations. The DCβs kid who got unnecessary attention has just derailed the whole momentum. Really hope he gets picked by some other competitor to slow them down.

Amazon is not great, and not like other tier 1 companies.. Also, bad in what sense? There are long timers 5+ years who are happy to ride the past stock growth, also pays more than microsoft ( which has simular hiring bar). Those who can jump the ship to GF, do so in a blink, so not comparable to tier1.
Is the spelling what's missing to be an ier1 company?
Here is the thing. Amazon is big. Bigger than any other tech company. Many bad experiences here are from people who were pipped. However, Netflix and FB are either on par or more aggressive in firing low performers. No low performer would say they were low performer. I accept that there might be cases of unfair pipping. However, I havenβt heard any among people I know. You donβt hear from people who were fired from Netflix or FB, or they are relatively lower in numbers. At the same time, it is not easy to work at Amazon. Yes, Google has better wlb, but it may take much longer to ship things. At the same I would jump the ship to G for wlb, probably tired of hard work. Tried startup with better wlb, realized not my thing. Just my 2 cents.
