Amazon folks who’ve worked with Jassy, what is he like. I’ve watched several reinvent keynotes and his interviews and he does not seem like a good fit. -tries to shit on competitors to make aws look good -his Jedi response in some interviews is literally finger pointing that trump influenced it and we were victims -Does not really embody humility and kindness of other leaders like satya, stripe ceo, tobi etc -Is HBS grad, looking at Steve banon, Sheryl sand berg etc I am concerned about how hbs train ppl is more focused on win at all costs over humility and thought leadership Amazon folks, thoughts? #amazon
He went to Harvard but largely due to his father’s influence from a well-known law firm at the time. His family was rich, unlike Bezos and Jobs who are true rags to riches stories, Jassy had everything handed to him. He was an MBA grad not an engineer also unlike Bezos. He was a PM at amazon. He’s like any other PM that plays politics and goes to meetings everyday, only difference is his manager is Bezos.
Did not know he came from rich family, liking him less and less
Wow hating people because they come from a rich family
I worked at Microsoft and AWS and honestly love both companies, but take this with a grain of salt anyways. I have not directly worked with Andy but I do know at least 6 or 7 who have. Andy is really well respected internally and comes across as humble and customer obsessed. I work with partners and customers and some of the top ones have named relationships with Andy. He’s a big part of a lot of the big customer and partner wins. If you think of the likes of Netflix, Fortnite, Uber, Zoom, Expedia, etc all going (nearly) all in on AWS, Andy is a part of that. Microsoft also isn’t some utopia with Satya. You’re still a Windows and Office monopoly with a lot of predatory licensing practices. You have hundreds if not thousands of people working in compete roles (I was in one of them). The Microsoft “corporate responsibility” game is top tier so all the warm fuzzies are there, but MS is still a blood thirsty ravages of competitors (look how they are positioning Teams against Slack). Who cares when he went to school? He’s been at Amazon since the late 90s.
Lots of projects in other orgs in Amazon getting canned/stopped to move over to AWS. I'd say fuck Jassy.
He’s a very very well respected man and great leader.
Thx for sharing
He executed on a long shot vision and built aws from the ground up to be first in market long before anybody else with little direction from bezos. He is humble and direct. Doesnt shy away from hard questions (see when interviewed on amazon personalize and facial recognition) He would've been way more effective in fact at the hearings than Bezos's evasive answers
I mean he can't really say much about JEDI and honestly what else can he say? But yea I agree looking at the general state of the AWS org I'd say Jassy isn't the move I feel like he's going to be like Steve Ballmer. But who knows? Hope I'm wrong at least for my stocks sake haha
