(>= 5,000 people) Has this company ever had layoffs or even froze hiring?
Has Bloomberg historically ever had layoffs? Even during the 2008 financial downturn?
Not within engineering
We typically get aggressive during all crisis, including 08. We don't have shareholders to answer to, so can take bigger risks when it comes to payroll.
PIP will start soon. Don’t shoot the messenger.
Meh. Pip not equal to layoffs. And our pip will surely be less shitty then traditional pip from other companies
Amazon PIP - force quota, surprise someone with a PIP out of the blue when a week ago they were getting accolades for their work. Use illegal means to force a reasonably well performing employee into PIP. Bloomberg PIP - After almost 2 years of missed deadlines, or lack of delivery, an individual will be informed that they need to improve performance 6-8 months in advance, if they don't improve for 6-8 months then they'll be given another chance and additional coaching to improve their performance. Overall, Bloomberg will kick someone out only if they are performing poorly for about 2.5 years after ample warnings. No quota, no illegal means. No toxicity.
Safe for seniors unless you’re really low performing, but I think they’ve slowed down new grad hiring because they over-hired last year. Also you do pay for that safety in the form of low TC growth and no promotion path for IC beyond senior. Also you have to live in or near NYC which could be a pro or a con depending if you like it around here
Most people don’t get promoted above senior. You can become a team lead quite easily and make more however
@pipqueen do you mean at BB or elsewhere? BB has only two IC titles, SWE and senior SWE so there is no IC promotion beyond senior
Man I hope so
You ask two questions
Lol yeah no way to know what the results are for
One thing I can say is that Bloomberg hired a lot last year and won't be hiring much this year except for specific skills. Bloomberg will never layoff unless it goes public at some point. Attrition is at an all time low so there will be extremely limited hiring.
Froze hiring and have re-org’ed when projects were parked but no mass layoffs.
Safe to rest and prep for next gig. Business is stable and uncle Mike cares about image
Can you refer me for Bloomberg please? Do they accept remote work from WA?
No remote work, 3 days RTO in NYC. Very specific teams are hiring right now and look for specific match in your resume. So getting an interview is harder than same time last year. We hired a lot last year. Try applying to positions you think are a fit for your background.
