⬆️ People who voted “no”, can you please explain? 😵💫
It’s for raises generally, promo depends on your TL/Manager
Hmm, speaking of promos, is it possible for a New Grad to become a senior engineer in less than 2 years?
Less than? Never heard of. At the 2 year mark I have, but Rare
Firing is easy at Bloomberg
I thought bbg had good wlb and hard to get fired
You can work insane hours and can get fired easily
How do you view the stack rating?
You don’t. Lol
Yes, can confirm.
You have to be peak dumb to be fired at bbg. I have seen managers screw up badly, very badly and they don't get fired they just become Wally. This is a Dilbert reference: Wally is an engineer who screwed up wasn't fired but was promised no future career in the company. Instead of moving out as expected by HR Wally make doing-zero-work his personal, radical mission. Systematically lie to your team about their growth opportunities? You become an IC. Screw up multiple departments one after the other? Leave without being fired, celebrate on LinkedIn that Amazon was desperate enough to hire you. The only time I have heard someone getting fired the guy was a fresh hire and told to his manager that the system sucks so much he deserves a raise to bear it.
I'm fairly new so this might be a dumb question but what happens to be these incompetent managers? Over time, don't they just end up being part of the system?
Some move to another department, some coast in IC roles, some land in other firms.
It's near impossible to get fired- stack ranking is only for raises. Best WLB I've ever had.
Slightly unrelated, but what are some tips for performing at a superstar level? I want to maximise my performance & raises while I’m here.
Manage up, very important.
What does manage up mean?
Yes
