I got a positive response for IC2 from the on-site rounds and I am looking to negotiate an offer. YoE ~3. Current TC ~180K. So there is definitely going to be a boost in compensation. But is Dropbox still a good company to work at? I am early in my career and I want to be at the right place. I have just started interviewing and I don't have any pressure to move. So I don't mind taking my time here. Hearing great things about Dropbox in terms of WLB, engineering talent, remote work etc. but is it a dying company? Would going to Dropbox be a wrong move for my career? Especially from a company like Microsoft, where I am at right now, which has so many products, is doing incredibly well and is a tier 1 company. #dropbox #advice #swe
Recruiter recently pinged me as well, so interested to hear
Wondering what is up for them too
Nopes it’s not. I wonder how people decide to work for such a company. Just look at their product and decide for yourself.
It's not that bad tbh (their product seems to be increasing more recently, they have a really strong competitor to Google Docs so I'm looking fwd to how that works out)
I am pretty sure some drop box employees will defend this but I am risking anyway. What exactly this company advantage is with one product that other tech giants are also in? The market also voted no confidence based on stock price after IPO. It went nowhere
Early in career, recommend Courage over comfort. Go to Dropbox gain different experience. You can always come back to MSFT even stronger.
There are lot of other companies to go to. Op’s question was if Dropbox is good choice or not.
Mute point, simply reading the header and missed the rest? Key is, What's the question behind the question? Op already knows the answer if it good choice; better comp, wlb, strong sde team, etc, if not similar to what he had @ MSFT. I'm addressing WHY is a good choice for his career not the WHAT
They aren't competing against any other products, but it's the ecosystems that they compete against. I wouldn't invest a penny in a company that's basically a feature in the rest of the ecosystems.
Look at their stock performance in last 5 years for your answer
What is their competitive advantage against other company products like Apple iCloud or Google Drive. Like others said I see it as a company that imply one feature in an existing eco-system.
Really , well recently? Every stock did more than well recently. This stock went nowhere for the last 4 years. Infact if you invested back then it would be in loss now
I would never invest in them
