Seems to be fairly mixed recently, some folks saying that the Microsoft acquisition killed the company, while others seem to think it was a net positive. From what I've read, it seems that engineering talent there is solid, and people genuinely like the remote culture, but there is little to no confidence in leadership. From reading Glassdoor and Blind, it seems the following: Pros (+) Remote first (+) Generally decent coworkers (+) Good benefits with Microsoft stock Cons (-) LT, attrition is high, leaders do not inspire confidence (-) Stack ranking? (-) Hard to get on visible projects and harder to get promoted nowadays (-) Low pay? Can anyone from GitHub fill me in on how it's like from the inside? Do you recommend joining the company as a software engineer? #github #career #tech
Also for someone who works majorly in Java most of their open positions requires 1 yoe with Ruby so avoid for Amazonians
That's just probably you or your org only. There are teams which use Ruby. Just do code dive and you will see.
They have forcefully renamed the master branch to main. So that tells a lot about that company.
Who cares?
It's funny because Microsofts internal version (VSO) is miles ahead in so many ways. Github lost so much ground even before the aquisition by not focusing on making the core product better.

How much of your household take-home pay goes to the mortgage?
Interviewed there in 2016. Very weird vibes. SF office at the time was pretty dead as they were remote friendly before COVID (which is a plus). But the bad part was it was extremely woke, even back then. A friend of mine worked there and there were multiple trans engineers who made life hell for teammates around them with constant drama. Decided to avoid
What is woke?
Treating other humans like actual humans, we don’t take kindly to that around here!
