Kotlin sucks. Java has gotten so much better since the shift and feels like a real language. Kotlin is just a gross Frankenstein between a bunch of different languages.
Honestly you’re behind the times if you code in anything other than natural language with CodeGPT 💅
imagine thinking this
You are in the minority with this take. Everyone I've worked with (including at Google) loved Kotlin.
What was the last version of java they used
Android is stuck at 1.8 so you have to take that into account. Also, null-safety built in is a huge benefit of using Kotlin over Java.
Even PySpark is more used than Scala; the real clowns are the ones using Scala for web services.
After a long stagnation in 2000s, Java has gotten its act together starting 1.8. Latest syntax sugar being added, made the language a lot more likable by the wider public. Once the Values Types are there, the performance gap with C/C++ will probably shrink to mere 5-10%. So Java will continue to be the most balanced language. I.e. the most performant among easy to maintain/work languages.
Maybe it’s because I’m in defense and used to C and C++ (which also kind of suck) but I hate working with Java even more. Glad Apple has swift as it makes hobby iOS fun.
I've never heard of Swift used outside of iOS
I think it’s becoming more viable all the time but I’m no expert. I am currently trying it on server with the Vapor library for a simple app backend. It’s pretty great so far
Hard disagree. Most Java devs bring in a bunch of tools to do what kotlin already does. Which is dumb because you can just do Kotlin. Kotlin usage is very popular in amazon.
I agree. All those jvm languages are a big joke and a waste of time.
I'm struggling to see what purpose kotlin filled that java can't do
I believe the move was motivated by a legal action from oracle.
