I’m joining Google very soon as SWE in London. Will I be safe? TC: 160k gbp E5 #google
Word is, Bain consultants were spotted at Google this week. It was leaked on Blind a month ago that Bain consultants were in Meta offices and working on a corporate restructuring/layoff plan with top executives.
I wonder which Partners at Bain sold this “Change management” project Also wonder what the code name for this engagement is… 🤔
Aw shit :/
Long before the rumors of Bain involvement at Google, there was a job posting for a HR restructuring role with a requirement that the person needed to know UK/EU labor laws. So some form of redundancy is in the cards. Don’t see how this would be any different than any other company at this time though.
Shit, I hope I didn’t survive one layoff to be made redundant in another (RIP all the meta bootcampers)
I’ve got a lot of friends in a lot of different industries, pretty much everyone has a plan that includes some form of redundancies within the next 3-6 months if conditions don’t improve. Just be aware and always keep a standby option especially if you need visa sponsorship.
I'm also joining Google London very soon. Fact is that currently available positions were prioritized by the hiring reprioritization exercise that happened some time ago. So I'm hopeful that the newly hired will be in a business critical area with lower probability of layoffs.
That's a very good amount of optimism! Let us know in a few months how it works out for you. Good part is Google doesn't do bootcamp, bad part is Google London doesn't have many/any critical SWE roles. If you're SRE, you might survive
Yoe?
