Holy shit why are they getting spanked so hard? They used to be so much better than AMD and now they can't get 7 out the door for years. Jesus wtf happened. Should they just throw in the towel, cash out, and call it quits? What a joke. TSMC reigns supreme.
AMD happened. AMD is literally a whole generation ahead of Intel in terms of processor technology. Plus Intel is overpriced. Let's say you can buy the car of your dreams. Would you buy another car that costs 50% more, has lower mileage, looks uglier, and drives less smoothly?
Nope. Intel is not over. Every decade or so people get very excited about some company taking over the CPU world. Like IBM did. AMD is another. Every time intel fails in some fashion, people start speculating. Intel is still the unparalleled king in CPU land. I don’t think it is changing any time soon. Even with all the bad decisions and not so great team they have.
Wrong. They have no edge anymore. Their sub-par architectures were only propped up because of their fabs. Without that, they will just become a mediocre fabless company soon, just allowed to exist to avoid an AMD monopoly.
The only thing keeping intel in the game right now is that their production numbers are very high - high enough to meet the world's requirements. AMD doesn't have that scale yet. Once they do, AMD will offer similar performance at half the price. Pretty obvious what would happen then
Intel has mountains of cash. Like ocean oil reserves levels of untouched papers. Even Chinese companies would have a hard time winning a price war against the company. Intel will do the Amazon model. Just price its competition out of the market. AMD would go broke before Intel would take the rubber cork off the piggy bank.
Exactly.
One of the reasons Intel has mountains of cash is product margins. That doesn't work out the same way in a price war.
I wonder who lead the 7nm development in Intel. I can see their CEO and CFO talking about 7nm development. Do they have a CTO?
Person who actually leads 7 nm dev is a technical fellow/vp 4 levels down from CEO. Yes there is a CTO (Mike Mayberry) but he operates at a higher level and doesn’t directly affect 7 nm dev.
Don’t get me wrong, but is the tech fellow East Asian?
After the latest reorg, I guess they have a chance now.
Yes, yes it is
Yes
Murthy got fired?
Remember Intel got spanked hard by AMD’s Athlon in the 2000’s, lost >20% market share to AMD, then they came back with Centrino?
If you remember that, you are in the wrong app/online community.
chokley, ageism isn't pretty. Maybe you could do with growing up
Buy the fear probably
Intel = next GE
Except intel is tech, so
