Are there advantages to taking an offer at McKinsey post undergrad or should I go with a tech offer at Apple? I want to optimize for maximize income over the next 10-15 years without sacrificing WLB too much. TC at Apple: $180k.
Maybe for consulting but definitely not tech.
Watch Steve jobs advice on consulting
Awesome. This was the first clip that came to mind as well.
You’ll meet a lot of fine honies in consulting 😍, living in nyc the finest women are at the big 4 consulting firms.
Big 4 is Deloitte, Accenture, PWC, Cap Gemini no? Do you get an automatic bump up with the ladies if you’re a McK boy? Asking for a friend ;)
McKenzie is pretty big in nyc, I would say the big 4 looking at New York City Fishbowl is McKenzie, Deloitte, BCG and PWC And yes in nyc. McKenzie has a lot of clout.
Still a thing among them college chix.
My friend's daughter, who graduated with an MS in computer engineering, started with McKinsey in May 2021. She enjoys her job, is being paid well and building an amazing network that she will draw on in the future That said, Apple or McKinsey are both exceptional choices.
My wife works there. Though WLB is bad but she loves the culture and work. Pay is competitive too.
Pay is less than FAANG, but that gives quite diverse experience and vast network of connections
McKinsey will pay less but offer some interesting experiences and travel. McKinsey offers good exit opportunities. Apple will offer the standard big Tech package (good pay, tech life, and solid potential to grow) If you’re a young single dude, McKinsey is where a lot of young college grads go, so it becomes basically a giant college party. Apple Park is like another college campus so there’s that 🤷♂️ Both will provide eventual cash. Apple May be in 1-5 years but McKinsey will offer it in 5-10 years due to the exit opps Edit: WLB at McKinsey is pretty rough. But also depending on what role you are in at Apple, it can be rough also.
What exit opps? To go work in big tech?
Yes 🤡 as PMs But also private equity (personally know a couple people that did that) Wealth management/finance Or go into corporate management (not in tech but in F500) companies related to the niche (CPG etc)
Management consulting post MBA- yes, tech consulting-no

McK is prestige for next 50 years
Lol
Someone from college went there. They tried to use it to swing their dick around about how great they are. They had no wlb and got paid less than me. Sounded great.
