I just got admitted to NYU Courant for MSCS. I currently have 2 years of experience and make 150k. I could attend without taking on any debt. I am interested in doing research. I don't think I would want to pursue a PHD after, so it would be back to industry. On LinkedIn, it looks like students tend to get good offers upon graduation. However, I am curious if anyone here has any personal anecdotes about this please tell me (did you or someone you know attend Courant?). I'm not sure whether the opportunities upon graduation would be any better than the opportunities I'd have with 4~5 years of experience. #NYU #MSCS #JOBS
Don’t give a cent to that pro-terrorist school
Not worth it
What's your aim? Research? Might be worth it. Career/$ progression? I'd pass. You have 2 years of work experience, so you'll still be targeted for entry- level jobs after graduating. You'd be better off continuing to work, at 4-5 years you could apply for a mid- senior level position and potentially double your current TC. Plus, you won't be paying the 100k or so in tuition and living expenses.
Yeah this ultimately sums up my feelings about it. If I stay in my current lane I think I could move around and keep getting higher comp until I'm at a company I'd be happy staying at for a while. However, I am tempted by the possibility of specializing in something. At Courant, the main thing to specialize in would have to be ML. I don't expect to become a cutting edge researcher in that area, but I would be very interested in moving into adjacent areas like kernel (GPU) development and distributed training. I think I would thrive in roles like that because they play to my strengths and my interests. Outside of school, it seems unlikely that I could get such roles.
My bro did a PhD there, nice folks there.
