Yes. Heavily. Two of my former colleagues just joined OCI. I expect they got huge raise because they were long timers here at G
I like your handle...
Were they strong performers?
Thanks
Larry, is that you!!!
Be very careful joining OCI and not in Seattle. They laid off over 500 in California people two months ago. OCI is a very Seattle-centric team. If you do join expect not to be included in many meetings or activities.
Given the recent announcement of partnership with Microsoft in the cloud space I'd be hesitant.
Seattle is not safe either. On March, OCI also laid off hundreds of engineers from Seattle.
There was a layoff in Seattle oci 2 to 3 days ago
Wait. What? Didn't hear about that from anyone
More details please. I didn't hear about it either.
^ ^^ ^^^ Were they allowed to seek internal transfers to other teams within OCI? Any idea what types of severances were given?
At first some people were able to transfer internally. But about 4 weeks word came down to stop allowing RIFd employees to find internal positions.
That’s sad. This sounds more like firing instead of closing a business unit.
@4shizle I think you are probably talking about one that is gonna happen early July. The one I'm talking about just happend last week in Seattle and no one knew about it to seek internal roles.
I'm talking about the one 2 months ago. We were supposed to hire back some good PMs and devs. But word came from on high that we won't hire anyone laid off.
Did they have perf concerns? If not why not let them move to the teams with available head counts? Existing employees are faster to onboard! Strange!!!
What’s the point in laying people off and hiring heavily at the same time? Bizarre
It's messed up. OCI hired some folks in January and then cut them two months later. Some were H1Bs hired from other companies. Pretty sad all around.
Shocking... was their performance bad in that short time or OCI just couldn’t afford them?
Lol 😂 😂
