Do you do true Product work? What’s it like at Bloomberg? Is the TC good? WLB? My TC: $200k
What is product? I’m confused
Salesmen.
People who dictacting engineering resources
I work with product frequently. A lot of them are ex-wall street types, some of them come from senior roles major investment firms and banks. Don’t know how well it pays but based on some of our product peoples’ experience, I think it must be at least somewhat competitive. WLB at BB is generally good. Most product people I’ve worked with work like 8ish-5ish. They spend a lot of time talking to clients and also interfacing with engineering. Their job is essentially to design how the terminal is supposed to work.
Nope!
I thought it was respected. How come it’s not respected?
1. Rephrasing your question to: “Are salesmen at Bloomberg respected?” 2. Seeing you’re posting this to “Tech Industry” this is not the department you are looking for.
There is no single answer to this since it depends on the individual product manager. Product is definitely the best paid department at Bloomberg since it needs to attract external talent from financial institutions. Ex markets professionals are generally well respected by Bloomberg customers. There are also product managers at Bloomberg who have never worked outside of Bloomberg and generally I would say these profiles are less well respected by customers. I would say that most product managers at Bloomberg don’t have as much autonomy/control as PMs at some other tech firms. With one guy still 100% owning the company, most people have to ‘fall in line’ and deliver on decisions made at higher level vs really having the ability to deliver on their personal product vision. In summary, if you are a well connected ex markets PM where you remain up to date with the market and deliver good products, you will be well respected, if you are a Bloomberg lifer who just ask customers how to build products and don’t have an external profile, you will be less well respected.
Best paid department? Ahem, forgot about ENG?
Don't think anyone there makes more than TC 500k in ENG (apart from heads). Product varies from 80k to 1mm. Some top wall st talents get paid 500-700k easily but these are more the exceptions.
I’m interviewing for Bloomberg PM. Ex Google, ex FB. What can I expect for TC? Sadly I won’t be able to trade which generates an average 20k pre-tax so i need a very strong offer
