Personally I think slack should merge with Atlassian.
Google needs it if they want to stay relevant in the office productivity
Nah- google needs to fight in cloud . Google has a good gsuite , they don’t need to pay for slack . Slack would likely be better with someone independent- like salesforce or atlassian so that they can integrate with any other provider for office tools like gsuite or o365
What else can you predict panamap
Somewhat of a follow-up q: would it be a dumb idea to buy shares in Slack if many people think that there is an acquisition on the horizon?
Yes.
I know for sure they don't sell themselves to MSFT. They have taken the war to their ego.
Microsoft wouldn't want them either now tbh
There is not much of an incentive for MS to buy Slack.
Perfect buy for CRM..
Most likely candidate if not for GCP buying it.
Why? It’s just an IM service, there’s literally git hub repos of clones any software company can stand up on their own
Can I facepalm online?
I'd be overjoyed to see AWS pick up Slack and RIP Chime.
Amazon frugality would not allow them to do this.
Idk why chime won’t just copy features straight from slack... seems like they can easily grow users that way. i guess they don’t want to invest in a losing battle against slack?
Slack would be a bad purchase even current eval so I can see G doing it since they're not great at the whole focused product direction thing. Atlassian might consider it to replace HipChat but there would have to be a significant drop to make it worthwhile
I’m not disagreeing with you at all, but why do you think G is not so good at rolling out new products?
Mostly their history lol. G hasn't quite cracked how to make good money on anything that's not Ads. Hardware: Nexus was a beautiful mess, Pixel is a slightly overpriced mess. Google Home is eh. Software: Consistently abysmal chat and social media product rollouts. Fantastic maps service but it has to be free given the nature of the world (api pricing isn't bad tho). Selling to consumers is a very hard problem and they're still experimenting with what can work. GCP and enterprise suites have been solid so far so that's a win. Idk what their internals are like but consider the public reaction when a company announces entering a new market. Apple: they'll probably execute bigger than most Amazon: oh shit they're gonna eat my lunch G: lol they'll probably cancel it in 3yrs Not a good image :(
Slack is more or less doomed - I think they should look for a buyout - likely atlassian or salesforce would love to jump in - however slack can not sustain the onslaught or Microsoft. Teams has a huge funding even internally - it’s hard to beat that .
Its not about finding, it's about team's being a part of a package deal, while slack is standalone, if Team's will get good enough for people not to switch from it - that should suffice. And seems like they are doing a good job, at least video call experience is much better than Skype for business (that thing is scary)

Google should acquired Slack just to make their chat ecosystem even more confusing.
