Accepting a new role at Stripe. Wondering if I'll get walked out if I reveal it to my manager? I know this is the case for Google, just not sure if Microsoft considers Stripe as a competitor. I want enough time to transition all of my work to make it easier for my team once I'm gone. Thanks! New TC: 285k Yoe: 1.5
Doubt you will be walked out
You don't get walked out. Colleague recently moved to Stripe and worked entire notice period.
Got it, thanks!
No only aws gcp get walk out
This would be great to know. Microsoft has products that are competitive to search and Map's etc so I really doubt this
Not true. Definitely some other companies as well, I know someone who joined FB with a similar outcome. The list is not public so we don't really know who's there. I'm guessing companies that Microsoft is loosing talent to.
As per Glassdoor, below are Stripes competitors. 1. Braintree 2. Paypal 3. Authorize.net
What happens if it’s a competitor ? What’s the worry
I think the concern is if you take some proprietary technology (lol), as if you couldn't do that before you gave your notice, which you would probably do if you were planning on stealing something anyway. IMO it doesn't make much sense in most engineering orgs to me, makes more sense if you're a higher level decision maker to prevent you from sabotaging or something.
If MS chooses to walk you out, it’s not your problem to handle the handover anymore. Your soon to be ex-colleagues will suffer not because of you, but because of idiotic rules. This has to be one of the most stupid rules, too. It makes zero sense.
Is it just pettiness that drives that decision then?
General rule: do not reveal where you are going. If they want to find out badly, they should add you on LinkedIn.
Microsoft assumes that you are leaving to a competitor if you don't disclose
Why would anyone not want to be walked out? Still get paid and your vacation starts 2 weeks early. Just get all your shit in order before telling your manager you're leaving.
Are you for sure on still getting paid? Not OP, but I pushed back my start date so I could give my notice on my next vest date... But 2 weeks paid would be nice, especially if I still got my last stock vest.
I haven't been walked out before but I think others have said you get the last 2 weeks paid.
What’s the walkout policy at Microsoft? How much notice can you give and still get paid for if they walk you out?
Why does msft do walk out if it’s google? Don’t understand it. Won’t the company have to pay the individual for the next 2 weeks anyway?
This is their way to say "fuck you".
Well you get paid even if you are walked out.
