I have an offer from Uber Freight as follows: Level: E4 Location: SF Base: 173.4K Annual Bonus: 23K Stocks: 330K for 4 years (vesting as 35%, 30%, 20%, 15%) Joining Bonus (not confirmed but expected as said by recruiter): 25K Total TC average: ~285K 173.4K + 23K + (330K + 25K) / 4 Offer may go marginally higher as I had some non-exciting competing offers, but should be around the same. Current TC: ~200K (Amazon, Seattle) YOE: 4.5 (2.5 in U.S., 2 in India) My calculations tell me Uber offer is roughly an ~18% increment over 4 years for me with tax differences in consideration. Very bored at Amazon, don't feel like working. Joined a bad team, no pip though (at least yet). 1 thing I know for sure is that I don't want to be promoted at Amazon in this team. So I will switch team instead, and I will take at least (absolute grinding of) 3 more years to get promoted to L6. I became L5 a year ago. At Uber, I will expect a promotion to 5a in ~24 months. Have read (on Blind) good things about Uber Freight. Could not crack F, and know that I won't crack G. Also have interviews with Snap and Stripe, but feel difficult to crack. Would prefer Stripe (since pre-IPO), don't want to go Snap since it's NY (partner is in Seattle). Please suggest if Uber Freight is worth joining at this point. Please comment why if possible.
Logically uber is destined to fail as a cmpy. Its been on negative cash flow for a while with no clear plan for turning profitable. Despite its 50B cmpy. Blows my mind
I have already made money shorting uber :)
No one cares about you.
The only way for uber to succeed and become profitable is with self driving technologies. Human drivers are too expensive in USA and state employment laws will only get stricter. If you are looking for a long term career in this space, you have to bet on self driving cars taking off in the next five years. If you just want to leave amazon for another raise then why not?
Yes my first priority is leaving Amazon for sure. I am not able to understand where to go from here. Better companies (G, F, pre-IPO) I can't crack. So it's between companies like Uber Lyft Bloomberg Microsoft Ebay etc.) From this set, Uber feels Iike a fine place to go. But want to confirm once. I am just hoping that Yes wins in the poll above :p)
I could be wrong but Uber and Lyft are above the other companies you mentioned above (interview difficulty and pay). eBay for sure, doesn't match.
Looks like you aren’t calculating TC the right way and you’ll get refreshers every year, so your tc won’t drop for the first 4 years. Base + annual bonus + stock (35%) = 311k for the first year. With refreshers in the following year, your TC should pretty much stay the same. By the way whats your yoe? If you don’t mind me asking
Yes, you are correct. I'm not sure what the refreshers would be, so worst case my TC for first 4 years is ~285K per year. I work at Amazon, so not used to refreshers :p YOE: 4.5 (2.5 U.S., 2 in India)
Refreshers for L4 is 72k if you meet expectations
Better than amazon. $$$ will go further in chicago office.
Yup, some orgs in Amazon suck. I joined 1 of it. Location they aren't changing since it's specific teams, I wanted to stay in Seattle.
Snap has a office in Seattle as well!
Hi op I have freight on-site tomorrow too, can I dm you for some question? Thanks!
Sure
Agreed that you aren’t calculating equity refreshes at Uber into your TC so it will be higher in reality. Freight has a good work life balance and smart people. Definitely good for a lot of learnings. Timeline to 5a seems realistic.
Did you join Uber Freight? How is your overall experience?
I did not, cracked more companies than I thought I would. Going to Stripe.

How was the interview? The offer looks fine considering you only became L5 a year ago
Interview felt pretty easy, design was no whiteboarding, only a discussion. I did a lot of LC for Facebook though, so that helped.
