Is Uber safe to join now ?
I am in the process with UBER now, but I heard they are not safe at all. What do you think?
Pass the interview first, then worry about this hearsay.
why? If you don’t want to join the company why do you want to waste time for the process? Not everyone needs interview practices

There is so much attrition that I doubt there will be more layoffs. TC for new hires is still top tier
Ppl like me live on Uber ride share for day to day needs. And I'm not alone. Controlled lockdown, many ppl selling off their cars, fear of eat outs...all these make Uber going well. But that's the business case. I don't know how bloated was the eng org before pandemic. Your security depends on that.
why do you live on uber ride share ? are you a driver ? you can live without uber, its just that you made yourself dependent on it.
Nope I'm not. I am a consumer. I save a lot with Uber for my lifestyle.
Not a great time for the company
Lots of risk joining Uber given pandemic uncertainty I'm here because I think it'll work itself out, but there is a non-zero chance that I'm wrong. Negotiate accordingly.
Layoffs happened several times since IPO, both followed by large recruiting so probably more volatile than FAANG but still an excellent company. It would really depend on the offer and your motivation to move. If you want stability I'd say stick with your current job.
Layoffs will happen just before rsus vest. It’s been a trend yet ppl still join them 😑

If it increases your TC by a good amount then join. Great company and would be worth the risk imo. It isn't as stable as some other options you might have though.

The half assed food delivery service that can't turn a profit? Hoping for uber to subsidize another unprofitable venture to completion after suffering from the same with their main line business for years is well, hopeful.
