Is a Disney contractor job worth it?

Got an offer for a senior PM role at Disney. The caveat is that it is an 18 month contract. Pay is $170K and it’s a 3-day hybrid role based out of Florida. I’ve got a bit over 7 YOE in the space, but this would be the first big name on my resume making this very tempting. Currently, I work at a startup making $140K fully remote (also in Florida), but I hate the company. I’m yearning to get out, and I’m currently viewing this as an opportunity to gain extremely valuable experience at a matrix organization. It also puts a very strong name on my resume. Does anyone have any experience with Disney, specifically their contract roles? If so, what has been your experience? What are the odds it converts to full time? Any benefits for contract roles I should be aware of? I know that’s a lot of questions, but any information you could give would be really helpful! Current TC: $140K

I've seen four contractor to FTE conversions so if you're keen on switching to the mouse, it could be worth it. Of course this isn't guaranteed to happen. My former Disney contractor rate was $135/hr. No particular benefits for contractors, FTE gets bonus, RSUs (3 year vesting), Disney tickets, salary isn't great though.

Would a PM get RSUs? I thought that was just tech roles. Not familiar with the specifics as they added RSUs to tech compensation after I left.

Engineering product and design all get RSUs

I considered the contract role from Disney. I didn’t take it as they were looking for a senior role, but limited to contract which I thought bizarre. How can you expect the contracted role to become a senior who overlooks the long term plan? I saw the exact same title for the FTE as well, so I suggest you looking into other job postings from Disney. My impression is that they are running out of budget so they are hiring contracts.

Out of curiosity, do you think that means there’s a bigger risk t on them axing the contract before it ends?

The manager told me they are hiring contracts and it comes from a different budget other than FTE. So if the company cuts down the budget for contract roles, not likely to convert to FTE. But given the bad economy nowadays, I am not sure if Disney prefers hiring contracts rather than FTE. Up to your call.

I have never understood why the company would hire contractors for seniors. Contractor roles should be for very specific tasks that during a limited period of time. In this case it is a pase bump and you hate your current company, so do not see a risk of switching.

Yes! Disneys good with contract to hire if you preform well for the role.

I was a contractor too before getting converted. Also it’s a good name to have on your resume!

That is something I like to hear! I’m very interested in joining Disney for the long term.
