I hear debrief where interviewers say the following reasons to reject a candidate though they are technically good. When I was with amazon one interviewer said the candidate used the same example with more than one interviewer Its not practical for a candidate especially for l4 to have faced all the situations . For eg - i can use the same example for dive deep and bias for action. What is wrong in that If i haven't faced a similar situation on what the interviewer asks can i say i havent faced a similar situation and tell a hypothetical answer. I have heard interviewers dont like that as well. How can a candidate face all the situation that they expect. Especially for an l4 role who is fresh out of college. For example tell me a situation when you said No to a customer. An L4 , with one yr experience said he hasnt faced a similar situation and said how he will handle given such situation. But the interviewer rejected that candidate .
At the end of the day, it's how well you connect with interviewer. A same example can be used as a positive or a negative. It's just how well its recieved be the interviewee!
Yeah, they can use the LPs to promote you or weaponize them to PIP you. It’s all about whether the person likes you or not.
Iv done 100+ interviews over the years at Amazon and I can assure that the panel is completely understanding of such things especially at L4 level. I have myself been part of debriefs where we have said that this candidate doesn’t have enough work experience fo assess this scenario/LP. And even if you say you don’t have an example of a particular area, the interviewer will be open to ask a different question for L4 roles.
How easy is it to find the difference between a cooked up fictional story and a real example?
Lots of interviewers are* bad at interviewing, Amazon included
Other companies like Uber are following these principles so it pollutes not just Amazon
Amazon is going overboard on everything they do
