In the tech industry, will having autism hold you back? Any advice for people in the tech industry on the spectrum, specifically software engineers? Asking for a friend. TC: 450K
people on wallstreetbets are autists but not disabled
depending on severity
Does having a disability get you special privileges? Asking for a friend
I’d be interested in knowing what people say/ think on the 2nd option. My little brother is autistic and just started taking programming classes in college.
Pretty sure ~50% of the people around me are on the spectrum. But they are geniuses.
Of course, that is a bias, high functional autists capable of going through an interview and getting a great job. Remember the survivorship bias. There are a ton of them not that "genius" and not able to communicate in a clear way. They take their time to answer or need really clear instructions to understand. A 45-minute coding challenge could be really hard even if it is an easy Leetcode one.
