Hello folks Is Salesforce still relevant? Is it here to stay? How do people working in/on Salesforce stay aligned with newer technologies? Being restricted to SF stack, doesn't it hamper their chances of cracking FAANG? Happy to listen to both sides of the arguments. #salesforce
Most of the teams use industry standard/cutting edge technology, skills are mostlt marketable outside. Company is booming or at least growing.
cutting edge, seriously ?
LOL 😂😂😂 You must be awarded for your charming words that can help advertise tech better
If you’re on the product eng or cloud side then you’re okay.. if you’re on the business tech side then you’ll end up locking yourself into an ecosystem. But I think they have another 10-15 years of growth and good prospects, until another disruptive company comes and changes the landscape.
Yes falcon, java, slds, all the cutting edge shit. Lol jk more like on the fringes of irrelevant.
I have a feeling it's far from cutting edge. Have they started building out features as micro-services or still building on top of their monolith? I see so many folks with multiple salesforce certifications. Always wonder what if Salesforce becomes obsolete some day. What's their next move? I don't think Apex, VisualForce etc can get you a job at a FAANG
Problem solving gets u a job at FAANG, not specific technologies
Sure it does. But then how do you make it through design rounds. If a message queue is required in your design or a nosql db, you must have some experience working on them. Since Salesforce stack totally obfuscates that, I do think devs working on it exclusively have some disadvantages.
I'm really interested in what Salesforce is doing with their headless Commerce Cloud technologies. Lightning Web Components (LWC) is actually very good, and I'm liking the new NodeJS SDK Commerce API. I work with SFRA normally but I tried out the SFCC Sample App that uses LWC, GraphQL and Apollo. I love it. I'm also very happy that the NodeJS SDK and LWC has TypeScript support. I see them investing heavily on this front. I also saw they acquired Mobify. Which seemed like a Front End Architecture built on React for the new Commerce API. The company I work at is a Salesforce Implementation partner and as someone who uses Salesforce products and services, to me it looks like Salesforce is going to be up there with FAANG within the next 5 years. I don't work in FAANG but if given the opportunity to work at Salesforce on headless Commerce Cloud I would do it.
LWC totally sucks off core (but SF core sucks too). No SSR solution (an absolute must for ecommerce). Also the use of shadow dom is a non starter for most ecommerce sites. The sample app built on LWC isn't going anywhere. Use mobify's solution.
You make some really good points about SSR, but what's so bad about Shadow DOM in E-commerce?
Salesforce is innovating by acquisition (not organic innovation) and is becoming Microsoft/Oracle/IBM in culture (and management they’re hiring). There are exceptions in any 50k person company but keep in mind that it’s first and foremost a SALES force. That said Parker Harris is still awesome.
Are folks from Tableau running the show now? Curious about WLB. Are you folks doing anything in AI/ML? Amazing job on the corporate philanthropy, hope other CEOs follow your lead.
No, they aren’t running the show. They’re just a part of the whole sfdc ecosystem similar to mulesoft. Wlb : great for the most part as in not much of a PIP culture. Of course there are exceptions. Yes, we try and throw AI/ML onto everything. Not sure it’s always needed, but we use it.
“Uninspired” and “bland” are two words that come to mind when describing the work at Salesforce and many of the people, but: that doesn’t really matter from a short-term business perspective. Why? Because there are a staggering number of companies that have minimal digital capabilities and they don’t need anything cutting-edge to improve. They just need some basic tech to manage their data a little more effectively. If you don’t buy into the Ohana yammering, and you’re realistic about what you’ll be able to do, it’s a fine place to be. But don’t count on it to advance your career if you’re in tech or product.
So why are u and everyone still at Salesforce if it doesn't help grow your career ?
I’m starting somewhere else next month, actually.
Nah..stay away
