Joined recently and seems like the corruption runs deep. Tons of useless do-nothings who spend their time writing useless docs that could be two-sentence emails strictly for self-promotion. Having useless meetings and wasting everybody’s time, but somehow fill the right quotas and meaningless “metrics” which they can surface to higher-ups. Doesn’t seem to be true of the engineers - who actually do things - but is it true of everywhere else?
Age of empires
Yeah. Some of them joined capital one and brought/ influenced the same s culture here too. End of the day, no “real” accomplishments other than bs metrics, useless meetings, and lot of show off for the sake of influence crap. I used to get done in 1 day what takes me now 5 days because of these useless meetings where my entire team is supposed to join with video on, and then asked to work on equally useless metrics/docs
Wow. A cancer metastasizing.
Maybe not "every" and "completely" but most
I know a product manager with 10 product managers as reportees and only comes on video call to ask stupid questions
Worse culture than management consulting tbh.
Depends on your org , if those meeting ls and docs are to decide on the shape of the button in a UI - probably a waste If it is how to deploy hundreds of millions in cash on projects - probably not a waste
I’d say on average it’s the equivalent of deciding on 4 buttons with at least 3 L7s and 6 L6s offering their totally arbitrary comments/dick measuring
What I've realized lately is that even among engineers like 2/3 really don't give a fuck even slightly and are exclusively working to game the system with zero regards for actual betterment of the employer. So when you have middle managers that prescribe hoop jumping because they're clueless anyhow the gamer cogs don't even consider pushing back.
Why should you work to better your employer when the incentives point the other direction. There’s nothing morally superior about making a corporation richer
100k of laid off people would like a word with you.
