Is having Apple on your resume a red flag to recruiters?

Early career designer here who left Apple to join a web3 startup on a whim only to have his offer rescinded (not Coinbase). This was back in November, and have not been able to get a single offer since. I’m at my wits’ end, and prepared to accept an offer in the public sector that paid half what my last role paid. I’m assuming since my portfolio was good enough to get hired at Apple, that’s not the issue here. Is there a reputation about Apple designers? A few people I talked to suggested that recruiters think that Apple designers have big egos or are difficult to work with, but that seems ludicrous. #design #ui/ux TC: 160k YOE: 1

It’s definitely not Apple. Maybe it looks bad that you left Apple to join Web3, may seem like a money grab move. This is a total assumption knowing nothing else tho. Also, it’s just a bad market right now, sorry you’re going through a rescinded offer experience, that’s tough.

Nothing to do with Apple specifically, it’s more than likely a combination of things. e.g. 1 YOE at Apple, jumping ship, and most early/mid level roles not looking to pay you where you were at Apple.

Yeah. Or to over simplify, lots of burned out recruiters who see Apple and think “I don’t want to deal with competing with comp”

Apple is a tremendous boost for your resume, and especially as a designer. It’s all you

Absolutely not; I leveraged my Apple into very high paying recurring consulting gigs.

It’s likely YOE — companies are either looking for new grads or 3+ YOE employees. Being in-between is difficult. Maybe focus on Angellist/Work at a Startup (YC job board)?

Yikes that’s rough. Thanks for the suggestion!

Leaving Apple after one year to be unemployed probably makes it look like you were fired. What levels are you applying for?

Anywhere from new grad to mid-level roles. To be entirely honest, Apple is the only other place I’ve successfully recruited at and the process is super different compared to every other company I’ve interviewed with thus far.

Market demand for ui / ux is probably down. If you think about it UX is probably needed for (new) innovative ventures and less for maintenance work. In this economy there is going to be less risk in ventures that are done.
