Any insights from current engineers at Instacart? Also, how is the work load and how good do you think their engineering team is? What do you think about their business? Will they ever become profitable? I am more concerned after Uber's failure.

Listen, I agree it’s aggressive. But the model doesn’t work, and if it did, we would be closer to actual profitability.
Instacart is a very different model than Uber if you're thinking about revenue sources: - Grocery partners pay us a revenue share on every transaction - Paid by the customer per unit delivery - CPG companies advertising (coupons, etc) The last lever is a high margin product and it's arguably more wanted by consumers than other ads because of the high intent use of a grocery platform vs a social network or a search engine.
Only problem here: Target was able to replicate in months by buying a tiny startup. Secrets out: we are being replaced by retailers. Walmart was able to do it and is already magnitudes larger than us, and that’s just the us.
What percentage of the north American population is shopping groceries at Target? A small percentage. Even when you look at Walmart, arguably the biggest player in the space currently, it's not a lost cause by far. In the end, what differentiates a marketplace with many different grocers which is what instacart is and Target and Walmart aren't, is choice. Most north Americans do not shop at just 1 grocery store. But Target and Walmart will never become a true marketplace where competitors have the same prominence as themselves. In the end I believe in giving consumers a choice through a marketplace, and I think the demand driven model that focuses on consumers will win in the long run.
So, now shoppers can register themselves for Target? Could they do it whenever they want?

Always wondered why Instacart hasn't expanded globally yet other than Canada, or diversify its market offerings. Maybe they're just focusing their efforts on getting the US grocery delivery right but wonder if that has big room for growth.
If you expand too quickly you end up like Uber
US grocery has lots of room for growth. Only ~3% of US grocery is online today.
