I have found what I like but from a Lexus dealer. Is it a good idea to buy a used BMW from a Lexus dealer? The dealer says it was a Demo vehicle and they own a BMW dealership so they brought the inventory here to sell. Why the heck they did this ? 🤔 Also should I be concerned that it was a demo vehicle ? Thanks TC 330k
Bmwinspect is generally for cars that are being returned after leases. Since these vehicles have less miles you are paying less. All dealerships do a standard set of checks before putting the car on the lot. You can also find a mechanic that will also for a run diagnostics on a car.
Don't buy a used BMW, seriously. Buy anything else. Maintenance cost of these cars is through the roof and they're absurdly unreliable.
I owned a few and I’m aware of it
🤡
BMW is literal trash. Next question.
What do you drive ?
New Audi S/RS cars and Porsche. One of my cars is a new 2022 S5 SB. I’ll be trading that particular car for an RS next year.
A mechanic pre-inspection would give me enough peace of mind, and if it's a performance oriented car, an oil test. This can reveal things about the engine your mechanic can't find. Saying this because the person who traded this at Lexus might have treated their BMW like a Lexus, which would just vaporize the life of that car.
It was a Demo car. This is more concerning than being treated like a Lexus
How do people treat a Lexus?
I would buy it if they will sell it as certified with maintenance.
Also how many miles does it have? A demo model isn’t like a rental.
Depends. If you can get a good warranty (Carmax for example) it’s fine. If not, I’d steer clear.
Lease a new BMW from a BMW dealer. Period.
Get it inspected from bmw .
You need to ask the right question of the dealership about the car. The right question to ask is “has this car ever been titled?” This needs to be asked since this car could have been just used for test drives and never titled, you would still get the full manufacturer warranty from date of purchase by you, plus any available new car incentives. If it has been titled (used car), you will get the remainder of the warranty. As for things like inspection, you can do it, but it is a waste of money due to most demos being low in miles (e.g. under 5,000 and maybe a year or less in age). If this scares you, a performance car is not something you should purchase, since they will be less reliable than a Honda and Toyota, and require more expensive maintenance frequently due to their nature.
So the dealer says it was a Demo car. That being said the dealer was the owner of the car. What makes me suspicious is that he said they own a BMW dealership but then the car shows up in a Lexus dealer for display and sale ! So if they have the BMW dealership why they would want to do this ?
There could be a multitude of reasons, they needed space on the other lot, lack of inventory at the Lexus lot, etc. Still check on title/ registration status, and remainder of warranty from factory. Does not matter where you buy the car from, the manufacturer has to honor the factory warranty (unless modified to extents)
You get better deals when buying other brand dealers since they dont want to keep such cars in their shop for long
What about it not being certified preowned as BMW inspect them before selling them ?
Right that’s the biggest benefit with a car like bmw where maintenance is a pain. But if the discount is substantial, you might just be able to pay for an inspection from bmw and get some sort of warranty on it
