I’m in tech because of the pay, period. Obviously working from home is great because you can live in a cheaper area—which I would say is still money. You can also say it gives you free time —and time is money. So I ask you, are you just in it for the money? TC 150k
TC or GTFO
Is tc tech company?
TC is total compensation, it's blind etiquette to add how much you make yearly at the end of every post
I don’t think people understand what I’m saying by “not being able to go back to tech”
Then make your point clearer.
Take it at face value, literally not being able to work in tech anymore. No side hustle or made up exceptions.
I’m here for the money. I’d still do tech if it didn’t pay but there’s no point de-emphasising pay and earning peanuts.
I actually love what I do. It's like a hobby.
Here because it’s fun
Work is literally something they have to pay you to do or you would do something else. I don't want to hate my work but at the end of the day it's all about that paycheck that enables me to do all the crap I actually care about in life.
As of Oct 24, 2021, 75% of the people said "Here for the money".... no wonder coworkers I meet nowadays do not feel like the coworkers in the 90's or early 2000's. Today, people working at Starbucks making coffees want to take a "bootcamp" and become a programmer or web developer. What I feel is, they are not software engineers or computer science people. They felt a bit like mobs, gangster, or pirates, and then, also fitting with gold diggers like back in the Gold Rush era. But when I talk to people online, they never admit it. So when I talk to coworkers, sometimes they give me this "just type this and it worked, why ask why?" And to interview and have a "culture fit", I guess you have to fit in "Here for the money" culture.
It’s a changed world since now the salary is much higher. I often see people fake enthusiasm or at least I perceive it that way. When you see this around you, do you ever consider to create your own company? Make maybe a little bit less but do what you love with people you trust?
I'm in it for all 3. Besides money I want to build really cool shit that people love using.
If you got paid 5 mil a year to shovel pig shit and never be able to go back to tech, would you do it?
Sure, but mind you I'm going to be building some pig shit shoveling machines. Don't care what my boss says.
