I wish I had known earlier
I have heard of people having a hard time getting interviews at bigger companies when all of their experience is at start ups and/or unknown companies. How true is? Should I even be concerned given I have a Masters and a couple of F100 companies on my resume already (less than one year exp though). #engineering #software
I only had experience at a tiny, no-name startup, but since what I did there sounded great on my resume, Microsoft still wanted me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Depends on how the startup is funded? Unicorn? Private equity? Or small business loans? Like you, there were once many tech workers that risked working in startups and they became Uber, Stripe, Shopify, Doordash etc.
Can you refer for workday? I don’t think I ever applied there.
I think it’s worse the other way around. Someone that has only worked for big companies for 5-10y trying to get into a startup.
True. A lot of ex microsoft at zoom apparently.
That’s interesting because it’s definitely not true in my experience. My initial 5 years of SWE experience is at various Investment Banks (the big ones everyone has heard of) but I have been invited to interview at many start ups.
Yes very bad. Your decision could topple our country.
