Spending $60k AND losing two years of wages just to get 3 shots at H1B lottery with ~1/10 odds (which will only get worse in the coming years) and 3 years of average USD salary with low savings, thanks to the edu loan and high COL in US. I left a 50 lakhs, ie 5 million rupees per year (60k USD without accounting for PPP) job and I was able to land a 240k USD job after my masters. And the net upside at the end of 3 years, between having stayed at my job in India v/s Masters+job is barely 100k USD. This 100k definitely does NOT make up for the drop in mental health, quality of life I had to endure for 5 years, esp as a masters student and then as a new grad. You won't even break even unless you get a job that pays at least 150k USD AND you save aggressively. And tbh, not a lot of people land such jobs right after their masters. I know it's still better than working at some WITCH in India for literal peanuts, but if you already have a 40+ LPA job in India, it doesn't really make any sense anymore to take the F1->OPT->H1B route, unless you're doing your masters purely for the love for CS (or whatever subject). Agree, this struggle is not worth it
Where did you get 1/10 H1B odds from?
We are seeing half mil applications, H1B chances are much low not 1/10 but it’s not 1:1 too
500k applicants don't mean 500k candidates. Most will be picked multiple times, then you'll have round 2 and round 3. Your odds are exactly the same even if everyone applied with 1 application. You can't stop people from wanting to get a H1B. Looked up data. There are only 125k F1 visa allocated. A lot of them will drop out, get a PhD, might not even need H1B if their country is current. I know other countries too apply with all of WITCH applied for *only* 80k applicants
50 Lakh was TC or Base? If it was base then absolutely 0 chance that you should be leaving anything like that. 240K in the bay area is much less than 50LPA in India

If I were you, I never would have come here btw I agree what you said. It doesn’t make sense
Don’t forget you work 12 hrs a day, cooking cleaning, errands, washing, groceries etc do everything yourself. Ask yourself why? Perhaps by the time you decide it’s not worth try it, you’ll have spend enough time here to survive after all that sacrifice and losing your hair, health, broken back, burnt eyes, and alone.
You already know the answer. Our answers won't change your mind.

Can change someone else’s mind though. What’s your answer?
Is this the only way, if I really want to move to the US for good? Should I go for a pReStIjUs masters...? Eastern Europe is hell.
It used to make sense a decade ago. College fees + exchange rate + no or almost no H1B lottery + less big tech job market in India. India has more prospects now compared to a decade ago and may have better prospects in the future. Just pay attention to what’s happening with USD as a fiat currency. BRIC countries may take over. If you want to go abroad for quality of life, there are better options and the visa pain is not worth it. And you’ll be surprised of those WITCH employees here - many of them actually get GC faster than those who are here on masters.
Which countries have better quality of life than Indi and also have relatively easier immigration than US?

I never said I expected any guarantee. I just mentioned how I wouldn't have come if I knew it'd turn out this bad
We all knew what we are signing up !! So stop whining. And if you don’t like it you can go back.
