If the position is based in Seattle , what could be the minimum annual compensation we can ask?
Is oracle trying to automate away DBAs in your opinion ? If so , can they succeed ? Will companies pay more to oracle to use a managed service or stick with dba ? I will give my opinion after I hear yours so yours doesn’t get clouded
I have 4 YEO as Oracle Dba and minimal exposure to Postgresql and to answer your second question, AWS cloud support associate would be dealing multiple storage engines(Mysql,Postgresql,Oracle, Sqlserver, Aurora db) but Engineer level would be much focused on performance tuning and troubleshooting.
Is the new job with AWS itself? Will you be like a support guy ( assume oracle SR support engineers) or will you be doing something different? What would this role get you in 3 year it 5years.? Just being an Oracle DBA would definitely not be a good furture or career unless you do some cloud and other databases like Mysql or postgresql or NOSQL databases. It's dying a slow death.
This is more like a cloud support role but I’m hoping for a good learning curve as we can get exposure on multiple database engines and I heard switching into different teams inside Amazon would be smooth if we van learn related skillset. Also, I’m hoping it would open the doors for Big companies once I step out of Amazon.
If your current role does not provide a good learning curve and do not have the opportunity to learn/work on other database technologies, cloud. I would advice you to take up the new role. I am a DBA myself. Congrats and good luck.
Thanks much !
YOE. Are you just an Oracle DBA or do you manage other databases as well? AWS cloud support associate -- what ae the job responsibilities?
