Hi, I have been full stack software enginner mostly using Javascript NodeJs and React. Is it hard to land job at tier one company with Javascript. Anyone who landed in these company using JS in interview. I am full stack dev but prefer backend. 10 yoe 135k Charlette NC #engineering #software #swe #javascript #node
Possible, but Javascript is missing some standard data structures which makes Leetcode somewhat difficult. React and NodeJs might resolve this issue though, not entirely sure about that. You can also just assume they exist and implement it if the interviewer requires it.
Not hard at all. Plenty of JavaScript opportunities. But eventually language should not matter that much if you are a good swe.
Same situation, node dev. I would say kinda.
What you mean?
Doing lc with Js is harder and people will kinda see you as a front end dev
Just learn Python (or Java). More Python/Java backend opportunities IMO.
Python seems lot easier than Java, havent done Java after college
Nope, shouldn't be bad especially with react. Was same deal here.
I learned Java for interviews just because JS doesn’t have a priority queue/heap. Which for some LC problems is a total pain not to have. I also noticed that interviewers seemed to respect Java more, even if that’s not fair it was noticeable. So if you goal really is tier 1 big tech I’d say you might want to consider it. If you do switch never go back or switch again though it’s only worth changing once just bc of the mental overhead. It also took bombing a few interviews to make Java stick its always harder under pressure.
Meh. I interview in JS all the time. That too for backend positions. Never have I been looked down upon. Always managed top of the band offers.
My resume is mostly no name companies…so YMMV op
If you're going for non frontend prepare for an uphill battle but it's doable. I got backend offers last month from Uber, Amazon, and Linkedin with JS. You do get typecasted into frontend so you def have to bring some decent experience to the table.
It Isn’t hard to learn java or python, that said if you’re ready to interview soon stick with the one you’re most comfortable with. If you’re looking for back-end role, find out what they use and learn that.
I use JS. For backend interviews too! Got 8 offers from top FAANG and others.
