I see news of World War starting in Eastern Europe then YouTube search “ukraine vlog” and it seems completely calm, people going out, having fun, clubbing. I see news of pandemic then I see my cousin who is a ER doctor on Instagram going bar hopping in las vegas. Same with friends from college who are in med school now. You can do the same thing with anything: - news shows chaos in some location - look up that location followed by vlog on YouTube everything is fine
First time in America?
Lol. This
You're just figuring out the mainstream media is filled with propaganda and clickbait?
The issue is only on the eastern portion of Ukraine. It’s not like south v North Korea where the SK capitol could get attacked quickly. Everyone outside of the eastern portion is probably not happy about the situation but not under physical threat either
The chance of anything happening is exactly zero. Reason number one: Lavrov’s daughter used to work at BBC UK… Reason number two: most if not all of the evil putin govt officials own properties/send their kids to school/keep their money in US/UK/EU. That’s established common knowledge, which “strangely” never really hits the western headlines, or is toned down as much as possible when it actually does. Do you really believe that the west-incorporated majority of Russia’s ruling class is going to let the few hardline lunatics from the military run loose? The west is holding the putin regime by the balls, though very gently, allowing them to “misbehave” without any real consequences — just enough to fit the narrative.
nvidia is spot on
The news media is incentivized to drive outrage and clicks and sensationalize everything. That’s why social media companies get a lot of crap for increased polarization. Social media companies can do as much independent fact checking and removing misinformation as they can, but the root cause is it is crappy journalists and news media pushing their agenda to drive more outrage.
“You will be shocked to see this…”, “Is Russia starting ww3?” (A lot of sensational articles/videos with worst consequence and putting a question mark ❓ in the end to save their a$$” “More than 500 million people will died in India due to COVID ❓ “ (this is NYT FYI)

What do you think is wrong with a kid who got rejected by 9 colleges?
You are right. Fear sells. News media is in the business of making money by selling fear. If you thought they were altruistic and showing you “news”, think again. They only show what they think is sensational and will fetch eyeballs.
Might be an odd analogy but the movie “Nightcrawler” with Jake Gyllenhaal touches on the deceptive, “sensational” aspect.
A lot of business sell gear to make money and power. Not just news media. Eg religion, politics, doctors , lawyers, . Just an example. I have noticed this tactic being used by many salesmen. Even your car mechanic.
