Is it not ok to do side projects for learning stuff and uploading to public github ?

I enrolled in lot of udemy courses and followed along with the instructors by building the same thing myself. I uploaded all these to my personal github so that I can refer in future. I didn’t upload any code or used any library from the company but I used company laptop. None of the projects can generate any income as they are just meaningless. No one ever questioned me about these projects but should I let them be like that or is it good to delete them ?

try not to use company laptop to upload projects to your personal github repo. Most likely its not an issue but refrain from doing so in future.

I love the mac they gave me. It’s so powerful than my ancient windows laptop. Just wondering if it’s really an issue otherwise I have to use my personal laptop

You can get rid of this doubt from your mind if you can buy a mac which can certainly afford.

Depends on Company. Microsoft its not a problem. Goldman Sachs on the other hand...

If you're using company property to generate cooyrightable works, they'd jave stronger claim since you're using their tools. However, if youre copying workbook code into a project and building it, there's argueably not much original work you've created. If you make the next great thing with their laptop, they might claim ownership of it. Unless youre manager is in the stone age, they wont care.

99% of the times, it doesn't matter.

When in doubt, shoot an email to your IT department keeping your manager in CC. Most good companies promotes hack projects, so it’s a good chance that your request is approved. However, as mentioned by others, do not use company laptop for personal use. This is against most company’s policies and you can even get fired for it if your company is traditional financial organization which I believe Paypal is. I personally do not care as my managers are super chill about it, so I use it for some personal stuff such as shopping on Amazon. I have never pushed code to my personal repos from company laptop though. I anyway have a better personal laptop.
