Title. Recently received a offer to join a new company. Next month will be my 4th month in. The offer letter stated that my employment with my current company is “at-will”. I have been a great employee and met/exceeded expectations. However, while I’m not fully aware of how background checks work, I’m wondering if it’s okay for me to leave for a new job without getting my bosses pissed and then jeopardize my new employment in background checks/references. My co-workers and management folks are really nice but who knows what would happen once I leave, especially when I’m leaving when they have transferred many responsibilities to me I’m a green card holder so no visa/h1b issues Current TC: 80k as a data analyst(not with PNC, didn’t update my flair) New Offer: 120k as a product manager yoe: 3yrs with a masters #hrissues #techcareer #hr
Definitely go for it. I didn’t before, waited the year and regret it. Opportunity passed ended up taking a job for less TC. Mind if I dm to learn more about your interview process. In similar situation
Sure feel free to dm
You will burn a bridge by leaving after only four months but that does not mean you should not do it. During a background check only your title and dates of employment are given. I assume you won't be able to get a manager reference from your current company but you can go back to the previous one if need be. A $40K TC increase + adding product manager to your expertise is a decent move.
Do it right now and don't even think about it.
No
Definitely do it! It's common practice not to confirm your *current* employer if you are still employed. If they run a background check and use one of the common vendors, there is a checkbox that you can use to designate that they not contact your current employer. Congrats on such a great offer!!
Thanks!
They would not hesitate to fire you if they could find another candidate for a 50% less salary. Take care of yourself. They will be fine.
Thanks for the reassurance. Much appreciated
They would fire you in a heartbeat if they want to. Why should you feel bad for doing this?
