Have been searching for a SFH for the last 2 years in the south bay in a good school district. Is it possible to find such house ? Need alteast 3 bed 3 bath 1600+ sqft single family ready to move in house. I am not interested in buying townhome or condo. I only want SFH. I like Sunnyvale area a lot. TC: $400k (combined) #mortgage #housing #bayarea #southbay
No, you need to compromise on the built in SQ feet for a good school. You will get like 1400 SQ feet max in a good school for your budget.
For 2M still can't buy a sfh on in Bay area seems sad... Maybe south east San Jose houses with up coming good schools. Or Sunnyvale maybe old but clean ready to move in. I would buy old, good layout, and just need some inner cosmetics update
Santa Clara would work better with that budget
Cambrian and Willow Glen are good for that budget if you can wait for few years for schools. 85 connects you well for Sunnyvale. You got to take chance on schools
Willow Glen doesn’t have good schools. Some parts of west San Jose 95129/95130 might be doable on that budget but 1600sqft is likely not possible.
95130 and 95129 are not affordable in his budget yes. I said you got to take chance on WG :) There is hell lot of gentrification that is happening in WG with tech folks moving in. Only time will tell about schools
You will like San Ramon once you check it out .. Schools are better than Sunnyvale..
I did think about it. A few friends moved up there but it's too far for me. I will need to start commuting to Mountain View from Jan.
Simple answer to your question is “no” if you only want SFH. Is your preference Sunnyvale due to proximity to your workplace? Or is it something else? With the Bay Area, you can’t get everything. So what would be the priority? Workplace proximity, school or something else? Some of my friends have purchased in Mountain House. Very far. But you’d get much more than 1600 sq ft there for 1.5 to 2 M. It works for them since they have remote work. Also, schools there do have 7 and 8 ratings. So not too bad. Not sure if that is something that you’d consider as an option.
Sunnyvale and Mountain View due to proximity of workplace and that's about it. I don't want to commute too far and the kids should go to good schools. Am I asking for too much ?
Those areas are out of your budget. Either increase your Tc or buy somewhere else
Consider townhome if you want to be in Sunnyvale for that budget. I know a lot folks on blind just want sfh but that’s just stupid. If you can afford, sure sfh is best. But if you can’t, townhome is a great starter option and also appreciates pretty well in good areas. For the record my first home was also a townhome and the appreciation from it helped me buy my next sfh
I have looked at a few townhomes but nothing great worked out due to high HOA fees and these houses are very vertical :(
Look for older construction THs. Many have only 2 levels and even small backyards. Newer ones are definitely narrow and vertical Also THs without pool etc have lower HOAs
Try union schools noddin/oster in Cambrian . Should be doable for 2 mil
95123..sakamoto, helman and santa teresa high
2M can get you a 3000 sqft house in this neighborhood. I've heard good things about the sakamoto but rating doesnt look high
Dude..2M will not get you 3000 sq ft house..one just sold across my house for around 1.6sh or 1.7. 2000 sq ft. Sale hasnt been finalized yet. Sakamoto is a great school..the rating went down bc they combined it with Glider..
Yes. Check out Asana. Why TF is your combined TC so low? Are you not an SWE
"Why TF is your combined TC so low? Are you not an SWE" You only hear this in the bay area.
Not SWE. I am a TPM :(
