Asians - what are your thoughts on asian female white male ?
How is uber safety team and wlb there ?and is this right time to join uber careerwise. I’m on a Visa so considering layoffs and everything any suggestions please. Currently interviewing no offer yet.
Uber is the NWOs choice for ride sharing. Aka. Buddy it ain't going anywhere.
Lyft is always there. And with the pathetic customer support of Uber, all the userbase can move to Lyft
Also have an offer from Uber and was wondering the same thing!
It’s really up in the air tbh. I had a coworker join in October of 2019 and when the COVID layoffs happened they were last in first out and that was a common tale: they also laid off the most senior person on my team so it’s was basically me the second most recent and the second oldest. The major issue is ride’s unpredictability not only with lockdowns but also with major recruiting issues for new drivers: who wants that gig if they can stay at home and get free $ or do the much easier job of deliveries?
I'm torn, when I interviewed I got the impression safety was moving to heavily utilize AI/ML, didn't seem like much traditional dev left
I interviewed with safety team sometime back and as per the manager the work looks very impactful and a lot of opportunity to grow as an engineer. I was able to talk to an ex engineer of one of the team in safety org and got to know that WLB was never a major concern for the team in which they were working Plus, if you follow the news, you can see multiple safety features are pilot tested and released worldwide, this sounds somewhat exciting to me 😜 Please note that I just had interviewed and not yet joined myself. I cannot talk about if this is the right time to join Uber, as I am also very confused on that part. My take on this is, uber is not a company which is dependent only on providing convenient commute to the users, they are into a lot of other gig economy based businesses as well which will help them to stay afloat even in these tough pandemic times (ex Uber Eats) And once the pandemic passes by, ride sharing is going to get back in the game which will further strengthen the existing business. And also stock upside wise this doesn't look like a bad time to join since the stock prices are pretty low atm. If anyone can share some thoughts on this would be really helpful :)
My take is Uber is not going anywhere in the US. Internationally it’s hard to say with competition and legislation (UK/EU in particular). Are teams within Uber broken out by US vs global or does each region hire workers for that region domestically?
safety team is pretty unsafe
