This week, they're trying to get us to join some "innovative brainstorming session" or whatever. I overheard some colleagues geeking out about it. All I can think is, "Can I just get back to my code and make sure my paycheck clears?".
Nope . I think the same way too!!!
Depends on your job and the product and industry.
I am pretty goddamn sure the companies see you as an expendable resource. Never ever get attached to your company. Your loyalty should be reserved only for your loved ones including pets, plants, things you own etc. I am fking more loyal to my Chacha Chaudhary comics collection than my employer.
Amazon flat out tells you they want you to be a fungible engineer = just a cog they can replace any time
That's the healthy way to view a job
I used to be one of them. Now I’m more like you 🫵
That’s sad if you’ve never had a job you gained some kind of meaning or excitement out of. What a waste.
OP, You have the right mentality. It isn't weird People seek meaning in their lives, some derive it from their jobs and act as you describe above. Others have family and kids and get it from there. In my opinion it's far healthier not to derive meaning in your life from work. Also if you have ever been laid off it pretty quickly ingrains a healthy understanding that a job is just a transaction of your time for $$$.
That’s literally all it is. All the people who take everything super serious and give their lives to these companies that don’t give a fuck about them….they give me a good chuckle and then right back to whatever I was doing for myself.
