Is my career slacking?
I have about 14 years of experience. Joined Microsoft as L59 newgrad as my first job. I’m not too ambitious! My wife earns quite a lot(L6 at google) her TC is close to $500k. She thinks I’m not too ambitious and just keep slacking. We have 3 children and I am the one who mostly takes care of them. I am not money minded and happy with what I make, but does it mean I’m slacking in life? Currently I’m L62(since last 8 years) I feel even I take a lot of responsibility, my wife works a lot! But I take care of all 3 children all the time. I consider that as work as well! TC: ~200k Yoe: 14
Life is short, choose the way you want, especially since your wife is making so much

I’m not trying to be rude but I have seen new grads at MSFT make more than that. But since you are taking care of the children I’d say it’s more justified
You can be ambitious about something else like homeschooling your kids
I mean, if you’re both okay with it, you’re fine. But you could push for 63, that and 64 can be long lasting without looking bad IMO
It’s absolutely fine to not be money motivated, especially when your household income is more than enough. Sorry your wife doesn’t appreciate that about you. Sounds unhealthy.
Yeah, I mean she works a lot! But she doesn’t appreciate me taking care of the kids all the time!
She should be thankful she has a husband who is happy earning less than her and also takes care of the kids. I wish I had a husband like you.
I would think one of you needs to go easy on their careers for the kids. That’s a hurtful thing to say :/ It’s another thing if people on blind say so.
Get a wife who is okay with whoever you are

My wife has a terrible wlb! So kids are sort of my responsibility
Fuck the world and even a spouse who won't appreciate you, life and be happy alongside you. You do you. Be happy. If you wanna make more, that's a different story. Putting 3 children thru college/uni might be challenging I acknowledge. Need more TC for that part. Unless of course they are expected to be mostly self reliant incl student loans.
My wife has amazing investments and she has a good amount of TC too
500 TC isn’t a lot, if she looks down on you for TC, think about how many people can look down on her. life isn’t just about money. Find your real interest in life, it can be taking care of kids! Do things make you feel good, not for anyone else
