Poll Fulfilling career: Decent money Good technical growth Opportunity for mentorship Good problems to solve TC 445k Yoe 15 #google #amazon #meta #microsoft #cisco
Google doesnât have good technical growth because everything interesting was built a decade ago. We now just piggy back on the great infrastructure. If you value career growth, definitely not Google but if want good WLB and culture maybe Google.
Same at Amazon and I imagine any large tech company.
I would argue you have to leave big tech to have the best job prospects

HFT, research labs, innovate startups.
I was there, it ain't all that.
I donât see the appeal of mentorship. Just another meeting to waste time.
When it comes to pushing the envelope it seems like Meta and Apple surpass Google in that domain As well as a bunch of startups and mid tier companies honestly
Pfft, Meta is full of ex-Google pushing their Google stuff. Meta people look up to all the other big tech companies, including Microsoft and Amazon, when it comes to technology. But Google especially. Apple is its own kind of company. They seem to at least have the self-respect to do things their own way and not feel bad about it.
Doesnât most of Microsoftâs innovation come from acquisitions?
Everyone complaining about Google is out of touch with reality. Google is the best employer, period. Join ASAP to improve your life significantly.
Itâs full of conceited people who are also somehow oblivious to the fact that everyone can see it. Definitely not the bunch to run the world, if the world knew better.
Itâs definitely the best if you land on the right team and donât care about career growth. No companies can come close to Google when you value WLB/TC but other than that itâs not a place to stay for a long term.
I wouldnât work at Giggle
Why not?
Somebody else said this earlier in the thread: the Google we all admire is the Google of at least 10 years ago. Also, you all write a lot of C++ code. Thatâs a red flag. So does Meta. Everyone, take note. Itâs either C or something better than C++. Stop polishing that turd.
Jobs are just jobs. If Microsoft announced on Monday they were going to pay at the top of the industry scale, everyone would be applying here. I have been in the industry a long time and the best job I had was at Fidelity Investments in the 90s. The pay sucked but we were doing some really cool stuff. In terms of technology nothing really changes. We are still doing 20 year old web stuff. The distributed stuff went from CORBA to REST. The cloud isnât really new. Banks had data centers for the last 30+ years. The only difference is the data center is now owned by MS, or AWS. If you like what you are doing and the pay is good why complain or compare.
Nice take. But is this true though? What about company culture?
How long have you been in the industry? Company culture doesnât matter? What matters is the people you work directly with. If your manager and co-workers are ass holes you will blame the company. If you get a good manager then you will assume the whole company is good. Microsoft has 200k employees, the company culture is going to be different for every single employee. Why do you think the opinions on companies varyâs so much on Blind?
Nope. Only remote roles for me moving forward. Iâm happy with working for so-called âno nameâ companies if I can permanently work remotely for the rest of my career and make six figures while doing so. Iâm not going to sacrifice my flexibility and WLB to make more money. TC: 105K
not that great here
