Is the ability to solve coding questions positively correlated to one’s ability being a software engineer?

Although I hate leetcode and the stupid whiteboard coding interviews, I have to admit that in my experience, leetcoders are better engineers in general: they are better problem solvers and hard workers. What do you think?

Maybe it’s the motivation to grind Leetcode (aka. Difficult and boring task for delayed gratification) that colleagues with good engineers.

It correlates well with one of a few factors that together measure one ability as a software engineer.

Well said!

I guess it doesn’t prove your coding ability at all, but at least it proves you are a grinder. That’s one important ability/personality that a engineer should have.

It's better than behavioral and trivia interviews, which is what people did before. Hopefully something even better will be developed in the future.

Depends entirely on the role and what the engineer will be working on. If you're looking for a frontend UI specialist who can invert a binary tree on a whiteboard, then you're taking the wrong approach to hiring for that role.

It correlates with your intellect and persistency. That means you may or may not have the experience, but you will have the ability to learn. The interview is not tto slot u to a specific job.
