Meta -> social media is debatable whether it is good for society Nvidia -> enables crypto, ai, high performance gaming Amazon -> delivery and aws Apple -> consumerism Netflix -> entertainment Microsoft -> enterprise software that boosts company productivity Google -> Map: help people find directions Search: help people find information YouTube: help people make more organic and informative videos (diff from Tiktok and Instagram) Android: democratized mobile os Gmail: free reliable emails for individuals. Whitelabeled email accounts for enterprises Docs/slide/sheet: free microsoft products without licenses Etc
Tenga
Microsoft also does maps and search (Bing) and email (Hotmail) as well as some other things like making the most popular user facing OS (and tolerating small scale pirating), gaming, etc.
Yeah, I was going to say it's Windows that'd most important. They made home computers a reality, starting with DOS. They're likely the largest positive impact. All other software companies on the list are just opportunistic feeders on the reality of what Microsoft created
I see how you framed this to fit your narrative
> Directions to Tenderloin > Search for illegal material of all kinds - pirated content to what not. Facilitate online stalking. > Enable spread of lies by unqualified people more interested in sensationalism > Democratized intrusion of privacy > Spam mails soon to be boosted by GenAI > Shitty, impossible to use products that slow you down several notches Ok then.
Google succs weird me out and I say this as a Googler
Do you realize that without Microsoft Tech would have stayed a niche area and limited to only a certain section of the population? Your narrative is flawed at so many levels.
All of Google's revenue comes from ads about dick pills.
Don't forget Mesothelioma
I see. So… Amazon didn’t make it easier for old people to order stuff from comfort of their home. AWS didn’t help anyone anywhere from easily launching startups competing with big tech. Microsoft didn’t create the most ubiquitous operating system that all healthcare systems run on and saving lives for decades. Besides, they didn’t block windows piracy. Every kid I knew pirated windows and self learned coding. Gates said he knew about it and it’s ok. Nvidia didn’t help with making absolutely power hungry medical image processing and AI models in cancer research a possibility. Netflix didn’t help with loneliness and depression of people by offering ease of access to entertainment without running store every time for a DVD. —— See this is the problem with a majority of Google employees. Weirdly they think Google is some almighty do-good company. If anything we do same evil shit (or more) as other big tech but under the disguise of do-no-evil. We are literally an ad company making money from selling user data. Our entire platform depends on hooking users to be on our services as much as possible to milk as much money. —— So yea, between “sell ur data and get free service” vs “pay for tech and we respect your privacy”, I would choose later. That’s how even Apple wins over Google.
Good job leaving out the biggest cash cow - Ads
How can users consume all that info without apple or msft devices. Don’t say android because that came way later
