Curious to know if anyone has any insight into the algorithms that “vet” job applications and resumes. I consider myself to be a strong candidate for the positions that I apply for, but I’m not getting much traction. Do most large companies (aiming for Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Adobe, etc.) have algorithms in place for separating job apps? How can I crack the code?!
Where would I even be able to find this?
Yes these are all very impressive people but these are strong research candidates, likely not even competing with that type of SWE work OP is trying to do. These guys are PhDs that are OpenAI caliber, not SWE 3 @ Google Maps. This type of strong application is wayyyy overkill if you just want to be a normal SWE @ FAANG. For most "normal" people as long as your resume shows good impact at your previous few jobs and you worked at a well known company (ideally known for having good talent) then you're in. This is of course, assuming your resume actually fits the criteria that the HM wants. If not, all bets are off. Theres also an element of luck too, and many times recruiters pre screen resumes shown to HMs, so if the recruiter doesn't think your a good fit (i.e unknown company, low YOE, not enough buzzwords, not a top school, etc) you might just get thrown out before even getting to the HM.
Yeah it's all dependent on the word "smooch". Use smooch a lot in your resume and it's guaranteed to get through.
It's weird. I got tons of interview invites using the one page resume I got into Google with a couple years ago. Now the exact same resume (with Google added to it) gets nothing but rejections without interview. Either it's the overall economic situation, or Google on the resume is detrimental.
