Is there an end to the TC rat race?
L3s and L4s want to get to L5 and make $300K. L5s want to get to L6. L6s struggle to break the ceiling and wonder why it's so difficult to make it to L7 and start making $700K. L7s wonder how Stanford academics with ML background can come in as L8s and make more money than them. L8s are like how the fuck do I make Jeff Dean money. Jeff can't understand how Sundar made >$350M in TC last year. Sundar is probably looking at Zuckerberg and Bezos and is regretting not starting a company himself after his MBA instead of going to McKinsey. Does this TC race ever end? No matter how much you make, it seems like there is always someone who makes more money than you and there is always more to be had.

This is life! The day when the race and the enthusiasm to do something ends for me, I will die. Race is for knowledge, power, position as well as money. Sometimes we forget find inner peace during this race.

Nice articulation carlsjr! It’s in human nature to be so. You pointed to what happens in software industry . It applies to social circles , academics and every other area. Just that the intensity of race might differ .
There is no end to the rat race, if you wanna run that race. But for most people, they achieve a sense of satisfaction at some point in life. And that may not necessarily come down to money. Some people are happy making a 100k, being fit, and staying happily with their SO/kids. Others will be happy when they make $600k, get to bang a new chick every once in a while, travel to a foreign land once an year, and own a mansion. There is an entire n-dimensional space where you can fit yourself. It all comes down to what your sweet spot is. Good luck finding that.
