Twitter Engineers forgot to remove this before making the source code public! As promised by owner Elon Musk, Twitter has made the source code for its recommendation algorithm available. A very interesting discovery has already been made by the open source community. Twitter is specifically tracking stats for users divided into four groups: š Power User š Democrat š Republican š And ELON! Moreover, someone bought this up in the Twitter Spaces chat with Musk. https://lnkd.in/dh8KniEC Musk claimed that he had no idea of the metric tracking portion of the algorithmš, and ordered to remove it. #twitter #technology #opensource #programming #algorithms
Twitterās algo has a O(trump) runtime, pretty popular until it scales and everyone experiences its incompetency
Thereās no way this is real lmao
It is. But different branch not the main.
Github link or fake news!
As an Alumni official of FAANG, Twitter 1.0 was associate but not a full member of FAANG. Upon the creation of TWITTER 2.0 (Elon purchased), Twitter 2.0 is not associated nor a member of FAANG. We draw the line on treatment of Engineers. Any company that treat its Engineers worst than Amazon would be disassociated!
So Amazon is considered FAANG but Twitter 1.0 is associate but not full member? how about Doordash?
The membership committee makes those decisions. However, my personal view is itās associated with FAANG and not a member. But as Doordash employee my views donāt matter because that a conflict of interest! The committee as a whole will make those decisions.
Considering you'll be fired if you lower Elon's engagement, makes sense to track that.
That's human readable code! Ours would just be config numbers where you have to do multiple lookups to even guess what it's doing. It's the Meta Paradox. Awesome tech built with awful code practice and nearly zero docs, but it works.
Seems very inefficient and non-binary š
No way š
and why is this a problem? Itās a private company. Theyāre free to tune their recommendation algorithms the way they see fit.

I donāt think itās a surprise at all that they track stats around their most active users and the two biggest political parties, with Elons ego we should expect to see him tracked independently as well. You might be surprised to hear that other companies are āspecifically trackingā thousands of categories, not just four.
