I work at AWS and have been with the company for 1.5 years. Last year, my manager promised to promote me in Q2 2023, and I worked diligently to address any gaps in my performance and to write a promotion document with my manager. However, as Q2 approaches, my manager now says there are still some gaps that need to be addressed, and the promotion won't be possible until Q3 2023 or later (just said verbally) At this point, I am feeling exhausted. I have consistently designed and delivered projects, only for the promotion to be delayed due to a carrot-and-stick approach. I feel used. I'm now considering my options. Should I continue to burn myself out by delivering even more projects, or should I take a step back, prepare for interviews, and leave the company? At the end of the day, I feel people who are good with interviewing and LC gets rewarded over people chasing promotions. Also, I'm wondering if companies outside of AWS only consider my overall tenure, or if they also take into account whether I've been promoted. Please guide me. #interview #prep #amazon #aws #layoff #promotion
In general switching is better, but may be difficult given the conditions
Is pursuing 10 houses worth it?
No.
You'll get it. They need an exception to promote in less that two years
That’s some real bullshit, don’t talk about something you know absolutely nothing about
It's a soft requirement
I advise you to start LC and interview at other companies. If you manage to find a better job elsewhere then it's very good for you. If not, it will help you look at your current job with another perspective. I promise you won't regret trying to get a job elsewhwere.
Will my present title be considered during negotiations and level at the new company?
This may play a small role, but normally your level in the new company will depend on your performance in the interviews. You may be a senior in some companies, but only be a mid-level in others, and vice versa. The way for the new company to assess your real level is through interviews
