A lot of this probably depends on the individual companies, but is there any general trend of work-life balance being worse at smaller companies when compared to giants like Google and Microsoft? Will the fewer amount of engineers to share the work and increased amount of responsibility cause worse WLB? I'm guessing it's true for tiny start-ups, but what about companies with over 1000 employees but much less than FANG, like Airbnb, Lyft, Stripe, Pinterest, Two Sigma, Jane Street?
Highly dependent on the company
It is totally dependent on the company, role, and team. I feel like mine is about 50 hours per week. And it seems that sort of output is expected.
Which office?
I think it’s role dependent . As a PM in my space I have felt screwed, except some relief during December months, in every company I worked in including MSFT.
