I was put into focus by my manager, I worked with the same team and the same manager for 5yrs. I immediately started looking for a new job and switched for a 50% hike in TC. But still there isn't a single day that I don't think about it since I had given so much to the company, to my work and went above and beyond in a lot of things. It still hurts, I think about it daily. I thought I would get over it but haven't yet. I had a good experience till I was not put into focus, but eventually you get put into it as your team members are getting promoted, DEI, team members who are working on important projects are not put in. After I left I found out that almost all of my team members were in focus at some point but they couldn't leave due to visa issues and they had to suck it up. Please stay away from Amazon, it's not worth it. I regret not leaving the company earlier. All managers and leaders are very good at one thing which is lying confidently and hypnotizing, that's their primary job. I can understand managers are helpless as well and they can't do anything since they have to put one member of the team in focus. Even senior managers and directors are helpless as everyone has to meet the quota. Does this mental harassment stay for life? When will the day come when the thought doesn't come to my mind? PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM AMAZON!! PLEASE!!
What org?
I can relate to this . In 2021 I was put into focus after giving my blood and sweat to this company. Worked since 2015 in the same team and had a strong presence. My manager changed and the new ahole wanted his pet reportee to take my place . I interviewed and cracked meta. Now sitting on a million . Thanks to that mother fkr. Amazon is a terrible place . Where you can be pipped at will . I remember begging to other managers to change teams. But even those bastrds were showing attitude. Even my close peers .
Same case here. Meta is not a heaven but anything is better than amazon.
Where are you now that is so much better? I might apply.
Mental injury is similar to physical injury. I had a surgery - the surgery is meant to cut open, clean and leave the wound open. The wound is so deep that it takes 3+ months, just for it to stop bleeding (yes there is some small blood loss everyday and it gets better over time). 10 years has passed and still that area is extremely sensitive (not normal). Mental injuries are similar. As a kid I was chased by a pack of wolves, for a few meters, and luckily saved by my mother. After decades, I have deep fear for four legged animals including dogs. I just get scared and don't go near them. It will stay with you for years. The intensity will slowly but surely reduce over time. It's never worth it to get injured. It's permanent.
It's not typically permanent. OP will probably stop thinking about Amazon as soon as he gets off blind for 3 months and enjoys his new job
Mowgli? Is that you?
What is the problem? You can exceed every expectation and still get piped. If you are in lowest 10% of your group, you get cut.
use the experience to keep your eyes on the prize for the rest of your career. health and family first, jobs come and go
Talking to a therapist could be the thing, too. No shame on getting additional help, like a neutral 3rd party to talk it over with.
Try therapy. It really helped me
As someone going through a 6 month long focus I feel this pain. I put in so much work and deliver so many high impact projects yet I’m still not out of focus.

And now you're letting Amazon live rent free in your head. Let it go, or you're going to keep giving them more.
