By better job, I mean the job that I like, the job that is less demanding, has excellent work life balance, has good people around that I like to work with, and importantly does not create stress or Monday morning blues. I think this is possible if I switch to mature companies that lack innovation and have a stable products that they aim to maintain with smaller improvements over time. Such companies may pay less though. On one hand, I think long term career that I will enjoy is more important for overall personality. On the other hand leaving big tech high salary is unimaginable. The mindset is to earn as much money as possible. Why leave anything on the table? Taking on some stress and pressure is paying say 200k extra, then why not get used to it!! I come from modest middle class family. Earning 100k per year was beyond dream. Being able to FIRE was not even a thing. But now everything is an achievable target fortunately. This comes at a cost of mental stress though. It’s never a cakewalk to survive in big tech where there is so much emphasis on performance and so much competition. How can I be happy? TC 300k YOE 10
High stress jobs are for your 20s and 30s. Stack your money so you can take it easy later
Stop anchoring being happy to dollar amounts or money, someone will always put earn you or there's always a bigger number to chase. Instead money is a tool, use as such and realize when it's time to switch tools lol
You cannot have your cake and eat it too. Life is about choices - you need to think about what you need to be happy. Remember money helps you get to a stress free life but it may not necessarily make you happy. Food for thought
I feel bad for people like you. There is more to life than making as much money as possible. I hope you figure that out before it's too late.
Too many people think like this where they’re just constantly trying to stack up more money but they don’t know for what or why. I agree, it is extremely sad.
Refer me to Meta, I’ll take the stress
Everything is achievable? You know people make more than a million per hour? Your entire networth within a few hours. Can you achieve that too? When does it stop?
Contrary to popular belief, I don't think TC and job happiness are correlated. There are low TC jobs that will make you miserable and high TC jobs that are like heaven on earth. It's mostly luck and the best you can do is quickly get out of a bad situation if you land in one.
